The Kings of the Board are delighted to be the winners of the Annual JCSP Chess Tournament 2019 despite very stiff competition from over 20 schools! We are also the only school to have won this tournament twice!
The Chess Club meet once a week in the Library and are under the tutelage of Chess Master Charles Herbert. We have established weekly league games and the league winners take part in the Annual JCSP Chess Tournament in St. Kevin’s Community School, Crumlin. The students are also take part in mini tournaments during the year in Tallaght and other schools in Dublin.
The mission of our Chess Club is to help children develop the skills necessary for success in school and in life through learning chess. Chess teaches critical thinking, perseverance, and concentration among other skills. It improves behaviour and school attendance, because children want to go to school so they can go to chess club. Through chess, children learn skills that help them become college and career ready. We are committed to our mission and very proud of our students!
